Influenza (Flu)

We are Now Booking Flu Appointments

Please remember to book your flu jab for 2017.

If you are aged 65 or over or are aged 6 months to under 65 in one of the Clinical "at risk" groups listed (click here) then you are strongly advised to have a flu vaccination.

Appointments can be made from Tuesday 5th September after 10.00am. This year we are running a number of flu clinics, the dates are:

  • Saturday 23rd September 9 am to 12pm
  • Saturday 7th October 9am to 12pm
  • Saturday 28th October 9am to 12pm

The surgery will be giving patients the Quadrivalent vaccine which protects you against 4 different flu viruses. If you choose to go elsewhere for your vaccination you will be given the Trivalent vaccine which only protects you against 3 different flu viruses.

What is Flu?

Flu is an infectious and common viral illness spread by coughs and sneezes.

It's not the same as the common cold. Flu is caused by a different group of viruses. Symptoms tend to be more severe and last longer.

You can catch flu – short for influenza – all year round, but it is especially common in winter, which is why it is also known as "seasonal flu".
